  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Selene Castrovilla -- Heartbreaking & triumphant : A must for fans of dance, though one need not be a ballet aficionado to fall in love with this stunning biography of Tanaquil Le Clercq. It portrays both the American dream and the great American tragedy. It is a story of destiny and heartache. Above all, it is a love story between Le Clercq and dance. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Elizabeth Upton -- Poignant and Inspiring : When glamourous world-famous ballerina Tanaquil Le Clercq became unable to dance due to polio, Arthur Mitchell created the opportunity for her to teach dance at his Dance Theatre of Harlem, from her wheelchair, using her hands. It was 1955 when "Tanny" and Arthur Mitchell danced the first interacial pas de deux at City Center. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from MC -- Fascinating personality! : I am very interested in ballet history. Tanaquil Le Clerk was more interesting than the tragic end of her dancing career. Her talent is very well described, how she inspired both Balanchine and Robbins. Her personality comes alive and is intelligently analyzed. The times she lived in the early years of the NYCBALLET are detailed and very interesting. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Judith Bennahum -- The exquisite ballerina suffers a tragic event : Protopropescu's beautiful biography of Tanaquil Leclercq is superbly written with many critical quotes as well as stunning descriptions of Leclercq's dancing that is swift, and instinctively deer-like. The author also digs into the subtle feelings and inner conflicts and doubts that pursue all ballet dancers. There are also wonderful photographs of Leclercq with Balanchine and Robbins, the two men she most adored. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2021 )
